Fred's POV:

So that was Faith. Faith the Vampire Slayer. And standing next to her, looking more confident than I've ever seen him, Wesley. Wesley the Watcher, the Demon Hunter. Everybody's got a title around here. Angel the Champion, Cordelia the Seer, Connor the Destroyer, Charles the Warrior, and Lorne the Host. Seems like everyone has a title, except me.

I don't know a lot about Faith, but I know what she did to Wesley. Cordy told me. It seems like forever ago. She had been trying to help me understand why I had to give Wesley time after he had been infected by Billy's blood. She used it to explain why he was afraid of failing me. I heard about when Wesley first went to Sunnydale as Watcher to Faith. That Mr. Giles and Buffy and her friends didn't trust him and didn't like him. That Faith accidentally killed a human and when Wesley tried to deal with her in the way of the Council she escaped and went off the deep end. Cordy explained that Wesley still hasn't forgiven himself for losing her.

But then she came to L.A. She attacked Cordy and tortured Wesley. He never told Cordy everything that happened, but she knew Faith had tortured him for hours, cutting and beating him. When Cordy saw him afterwards he had bruises and cuts on his face and rope burns on his wrists. The Council came for Faith, but Wesley and Angel held them off. And Faith turned herself in to the police. She has been in prison since. Angel has visited her a few times but Wesley never had, until today.

When Cordy told me all that, I realized how many scars Wesley has, physically and emotionally. He has scars from Faith's torture, from Angel's old office exploding, from the gunshot wound he received trying to protect Charles and from Justine's knife as he tried to protect Connor. Those are only the scars you can see. There are scars on his heart as well. The blame he feels for Faith, the blame he feels for being infected and attacking me, the pain he felt when I chose Charles instead, and the hurt of being abandoned by all his friends. And more scars have been added today. Wesley will blame himself for Lilah's death, because it was his idea to bring Angelus back.

I know he cared for Lilah. I could tell by the pain in his eyes as he wrapped her in plastic and took her body downstairs. I can understand and accept that he cares for her at the same time he loves me, because I care for Charles while always loving Wesley. When he returns, I want to take him in my arms and start healing all that pain, all that blame, all those scars. He and Faith have brought back the sun, now I will have to bring back his smile.
